Here are some ideas to help you deal with emergency stains. Hints are suggestions only that will work on most carpets, however, you use them at your own risk as Searle’s Carpet Care cannot accept any responsibility for any damage caused.
Hints To Maintain Your Carpet (Test on a small area first).
Biro: Sponge with a cloth dipped in a little milk, along with vinegar and lemon juice.
Blood: If fresh, sponge immediately with cold salty water. If old, make a stiff paste of starch or borax and water. Pat the paste onto the stain and allow to dry. Brush off with a stiff brush.
Burn Mark: Remove burnt fibre with sandpaper, steel wool or nail scissors. Sponge with white vinegar.
Chewing Gum: Sponge with eucalyptus oil, then use a knife to peel away the gum.
Felt Pen: Sponge clean with methylated spirits, or equal parts methylated spirits and vinegar.
Lipstick: Moisten with eucalyptus oil but do not rub. Dab the spot with absorbent material, repeat until stain disappears.
Orange Drink: Remove with a paste of Borax and water.
Urine: Place absorbent paper on stain and tread in to maximise absorption. Sponge with warm soapy water. Give a final treatment of vinegar and water to eliminate odour.
Vomit: Use a large spoon to remove surface material. Sprinkle carpet generously with bicarbonate of soda. Place absorbent paper over stain and tread in to maximise absorption. Sponge with warm soapy water. Finally wipe with vinegar to eliminate odour.
Wine / Tea / Milk / Coffee / Beer : Spray with soda water, soak up liquid with absorbent paper. Sprinkle with salt or bicarbonate of soda, to absorb fluid. Vacuum when completely
dry. Sponge with borax solution, if the carpet has stained, sponge with vinegar.
